Private Vs. Public Banking
Umbilical cord blood stem cells can be banked in either a private bank or a public bank. The primary difference between a private and public cord blood bank is that, in a private bank the expectant family pays to bank the umbilical cord blood for their private use, while a public cord blood bank collects umbilical cord blood free of cost from anyone who wishes to donate and stores it for the benefit of the general public.
